          From the beginning of the anti-rape movement in the early 1970s, education has been an important component of the response to sexual violence.

          Initial efforts focused on raising awareness about the prevalence and impact of the experience of rape, bringing forward the voices of survivors, and emphasizing the need for dedicated resources.
